• Get The Brave Chick's Guide to Putting Yourself Out There

about page version # 247

This website is for functional misfits who want more meaning in their life. My clients have been on the path of personal and spiritual development for a while. For whatever reason, they can’t get to the next level in their life. My job is to help them figure out what they want and release whatever is in the way of creating it. For many, I’m an alternative to a therapist or pastor.

A lot of my work centers around entrepreneurship because I believe it’s key to being successful in our new economy.  If you want to do something out of the box or creative, you’ll probably have to start a business to make it work.

I know how incredibly painful it can be to sit down and work on something that’s important to you. Whether you’re writing a novel or starting a new business, creation is damn scary. I use metaphor, stories and mind-body techniques to make it much easier and more effective. My job as a coach is to help you

A. Figure out what that important thing is that you want to do or create

and

B. Release whatever blocks are standing in the way of you doing it.

My story

I’ve been a lot of the places you’ve been—depressed, drugged-out, and overweight. Even after I gave up the drugs and alcohol I spent a lot of time wondering what the hell to do with my life. I’ve been a waitress, teacher, and a writer. I’ve sold Mary Kay and Cutco and I’ve even been a telemarketer!

For most of my career I’ve helped people heal starting with their body. To this end, I started doing massage in 1997. I loved doing massage and I loved my clients. When we were together, they experienced peace and a reduction or healing of their physical symptoms. I wanted to teach them how to do that for themselves when they weren’t in my massage office. I started teaching yoga and meditation. This, combined with my massage skills, helped them much more. But it still didn’t cut it.

Then I decided to train under Dr. Martha Beck, the life coach who writes for and appears on Oprah. Even though I was afraid it would be cheesy and weird, life coaching was the missing piece I had been looking for. Martha taught me essential tools to help clear the painful things that happen in the mind.I have also studied with the masterful Brooke Castillo and many marketing and business teachers.

My work now combines mind, body and spirit tools to help people make swift changes. Healing has to happen in all three areas in order to last. One without the other will only take you so far.

In 1993 I quit drinking and taking drugs. I’ve been a seeker ever since. Actually, I was looking for a connection with God before I ever started drinking but I didn’t know that’s what I was looking for. Drinking really helped me to feel more connected for a while but it brought a slew of problems with it. I’m not religious at all, but the foundation of my life is becoming aligned with what I believe God would have me do.

No matter how much I worked on myself, I couldn’t overcome my complete lack of focus. It caused huge problems in my business and in my marriage. And I constantly felt like an idiot. It was very frustrating. I was officially diagnosed with ADHD in 2005. This was so freeing because I began to see that so many of the things I struggled with were due to my brain chemistry and not because I was a loser.

I read a book that suggested that women with ADD needed to be in positions where they had an assistant who would handle the details and administrative tasks of their job. That made a lot of sense to me except I didn’t know how I would be able to hold it together well enough to get to the point where I could have an assistant.

I know now that the way around this is to start your own business. Starting a business when you struggle with focus definitely brings its own complications. On one hand, you have to create your own self discipline which is tough. But on the other, you can do it in whatever way makes sense for your particular quirks. This is what makes business so awesome for people like me and my clients.

What else should you know?

Every fear, every freakout, every procrastination has a holy message for you that can help lead you to your right path. Not the path your mom thinks is right for you. Or the one your husband thinks is right. It’s the path you’re craving in that truest, deepest part of your soul that you haven’t been able to access for a long time, maybe even since you were a kid.

Don’t worry. It’s still there waiting for you.

And so am I.

I’d love to help you find your way.
